View Full Version : How to Turn CyberSyncs Off

My CyberSyncs arrived today!!! Am I understanding it correctly, though, that you can't turn the receivers off? I even tried removing the batteries, but as soon as I replaced them it turned back on. I know it turns off in an hour, but it seems like I should be able to manually turn them off. Am I missing something or is this just how they work?

Thanks.

turn the batteries backwards. That will shut them off.

There is no off switch for the reciever.

no they cannot be turned of. i just remove all batteries when i am done with my shoot. on the transmitter to keep the little button from being depressed while in my pack, i turn the battery around backwards to keep from draing it.

I cannot stand the idea of reverse polarity power source on a circuit, especially one without a mechanical power switch that opens the circuit! Simple to stick a small piece of mylar adhesive tape (3D Magic Mending tape, for example) on one end, mylar is a super insulator. For use, move the mylar tape from the end to the side of the battery for storage of the tape during use.

When I opened up my newly arrived CS's, they were blinking green at me because the buttons had been periodically pushed during shipping.

As the instructions that came with them state: They cannot be turned off, but have an auto-off.

I usually remove the batteries. That also should save me if case the batteries ever decide to leak.

I love the performance and price, but it seems like a design flaw that something as simple and inexpensive as a power switch is not included. Or even the ability to adjust the auto-off timer; an hour is a very long time. And for it to kill a set of batteries in only 20 hours, it's pulling quite a bit all the time whether you're shooting or not. Oh well, my eneloops will go in when I need them, they'll have to come out when I'm done. A shame that such a nice product isn't more elegant than this, though.

An hour would be damned annoying to me, I set them off at the start of a wedding reception and want them to work for four hours. Skyports (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/505381-REG/Elinchrom_EL_19360_EL_Skyport_Universal_Radio_Slav e.html/BI/2312/KBID/3114) have power switches for transmitter and receiver, and the receivers have rechargable batteries built in. I have no idea how long the battery life is, but my guess after using them is more than 20 hours.

You pay more money to have a power switch!

The CyberSync manual states in bold "The estimated battery life is approximately 200 hours of ON time."

Furthermore, they do have an ON button. It's just that they don't have an OFF button. They turn themselves off after an hour of non-use.

Anyways, if you are sitting on your butt for a full hour at a wedding, then you ain't the photographer there.

My take exactly.

That plus the fact that Cybersync receivers use AA batteries. 36 AA Copper tops are about $12 at Costco. I throw one package in my bag before each wedding. And then use my rechargeables...

And I'll lay you 10-1 that if the auto shutoff was shorter folks would be screaming about that too. So they want an adjustable auto off and an on-off switch.

Someone said they turn off after an hour, not an hour after the last use. Big difference.

i just pull the cable out of the receiver when i put them back in the bag - then as stated in the manual they auto power-off.

i've been using mine since the end of December every day (i'm doing a 365 thing) and the stock battery in each is still going strong!

whynot put them away in a box where none of the buttons will be pressed so then they'll shut off after an hour..
