I've been looking around for a new camera bag, something a little more casual than my Lowepro Compurover and Flipside bags... a shoulder bag. But my dilemma is that camera bags are difficult to judge based on marketing photos.

I'm looking for room for a 70-200 f/2.8 with 40D attached and a 16-35; stored vertically, and not much else. I'm looking to steer away from lots of accessory space, I won't be carrying a full set of cables, card readers, or battery chargers. Just the lenses, camera, an extra battery and an extra card; minimalist.

I've browsed all the official bag manufacturer's websites, none of which were really helpful. (Crumpler's flash site was terrible.)

So I'm looking to the forums, does anyone have a smallish bag that does what I'm looking for?

Look at the Domke F-3x. I carry a 1D3 with 70-200 2.8 IS and a 24-70 in mine. If I want a flash and a water bottle, I have 2 outside pockets just the right size.

I have a Tamrac Model 5534 ( Adventure Messenger 4 ) Like This. (http://cgi.ebay.com/Tamrac-5534-Adventure-Messenger-4-Camera-Bag-Case-NEW_W0QQitemZ110334790158QQcmdZViewItemQQptZBags_C ases_Straps?hash=item110334790158&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A570%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C2 40%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50)

I can fit (smugly ) a gripped 40D with a Sigma 24-70, hood reversed. Along with a Tokina 12-24. Along with a 550EX. with a negligible amount of room for batteries and Memory.

Or I can carry a non-gripped 40D with a Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 and either a 1.4x, and 2x t/c, or the Tokina 12-24 and a 'Nifty-Fifty', again with a little room for batteries and memory.

I like my gear packed snugly. I guess I'd rather work a little to get it in and out than work a lot to replace it when it falls out of my bag.

Your mileage may vary.

D.

it won't tell you what bag to use, but it will allow you to search for some to see what real-world users are stuffing in them

I have the Domke F2 little bigger than the F3x. Either way the Domke has been a great addition for me. Comfortable to carry, easy access to everything. Easy to configure with optional inserts.

I just bought a Lowepro Flipside 300 which is a bit bigger than what you want. but Lowepro does make a 200 Flipside that functions the same as the 300 and is a bit more compact.

Instead of the normal front access, which involves juggling and balancing the backpack for access to the zippers and compartments, the rear side unzips (the side to your back). The shoulder straps can fold out of the way and you have access to whatever you need more conveniently.

That site is excellent - it should be referenced in a sticky.

Edit added - I referenced this site in the Bag Reviews Sticky.
