Newbie, looking for a specific feature..
My navigation of my images is not by a Gallery/Event necessarily but instead via image content, ex. person, place or thing, etc. Thus I am wondering if it is possible within EE (or any other known software) to generate a web gallery that allows navigation by the pictures keyword hierarchy (it is a tree structure called categories within iMatch). Note that the hierarchy can be infinite levels deep. For example:
Location -> North America -> USA -> Ohio -> Cleveland -> Euclid
Location -> North America -> Canada -> Ontario -> Ottawa
Location -> South America -> Ecuador -> Loja
Subject -> Building -> Rock n Roll Hall of Fame
Subject -> Person -> Christina Aguilera
Subject -> Person -> Jimi Hendrix
Event -> Water Sports -> Water Polo -> Tournament
Event -> Water Sports -> Water Polo -> Practice
As another note, I have over 5 top level, up to 40 sub levels each and 1000 sub sub levels within each parent.
The images keywords/categories hierarchy is stored within the IPTC category information of every image, thus the directory location of the physical image is not necessary relevant nor required. This is a huge advantage when I move from one software platform to another knowing that all my information moves with the image vs. its directory location. But, here comes my major question. How to create a dynamic database based web gallery in EE (or other application), that allows me to navigate my images via the keyword tree structures. Yes I can create Categories for each top level keyword, but since it is a very deep structure I don’t see how this works within EE.
As an example, someone comes into my site wanting to find all pictures in all my galleries of the Cleveland, Ohio, regardless of the event I took the pictures. In the case of my picture hierarchy, they simple would navigate the gallery's hierarchy of: Location.North America.USA.Ohio.Cleveland and they would get all of the images in Cleveland. But from a keyword perspective, if you search on Cleveland alone, you would not get only Cleveland, Ohio USA, but all keywords of Cleveland everywhere in the world including if a persons name contains Cleveland. Or another example is to find all pictures of Christina Aguilera regardless of the event or location. J
For those that do not use iMatch (I am a user not a developer/owner), this is an excellent indexing application. It indexes your photographs very quickly disregarding the directory location and allows you to populate all your images IPTC and EXIF into your images.
Note iMatch (IPTC) categories are unlimited and unlimited in depth too. I believe EE uses the IPTC categories as keywords instead.
