I'm working on my website right now ( www.dmetschke.com (http://www.dmetschke.com) )
and I'm trying to figure out how to organize my portfolios without being too much.

let me explain what my goal is:
I'm starting to get established in the entertainment industry as a music photographer. I would like to work taking portraits of talent (specializing in music)... ok rambling

so like bands (live + portraits) and I would love to be able to show my portrait work in general so that I may work more with various talent in the future.
(I've already worked with several actors)

I was thinking of having a break down like this:
MUSIC
- live/performance
- portraits
(the above cat. is strictly for music industry)

PORTRAITS
- music (links back to music, and is listed as first to set the primary)
- portraits > Children > ADULTS???????

that should give you an idea..

so my problem is really, how much should I break down portraits
should I have a cat. for just children? I think I should, but then what do I call the adult photos?

Confused

AIM: dmetschke if it's easier to discuss.

thanks in advance

I think the point of a portfolio is to show ONLY your best work. I think the more that you break it down, the more difficult it is to get the point across. I would say to keep it to 4 or less different categories. I think live music, promo (music promos here), portrait (non-music), and something else (fine art, yada yada).

Try and focus your portfolio to the market you are trying to break into.
