Ordered the new Epson R1800 this morning from Calumet Photo and it shipped this afternoon--should have it Monday. Can't wait to print some of my pictures taken with my new 20D.

I was going to wait until others purchased one of these and commented on it, but just couldn't wait.

I'm curious if anyone else has one "on the way" yet.

What country are you in? I have not been able to find it in local stores or on the internet as being in stock. I don't think it is available yet. Some places are taking orders for them. Even on www.epson.com they only list its "estimated street price".

USA.

I could not find this printer anywhere either. Calumet Photo has a very good reputation with great feedback. I guess I'll find out next week. According to their website and personal contact, it shipped this afternoon.

For something like a printer, I'm going to wait until it is in a local store. Printers seem to have a higher rate or problems than other technology so I'd rather have a place I can take it to than to have to ship it back and so on.

I've had a number of Photo printers over the years, but my current was the Epson 820. After being dialed it, it was great. I was also using my son's 2200... that was my mistake. I've been following the R1800 since it was first announced. It was either this or a 2200. I forsee a lot of support for it. RedRiverPaper mentions on their web site that they'll soon have profiles for it. I did a lot of printing over the weekend... and I'm VERY pleased with it. So far I've printed Enhanced Matte, Premium Glossy (very good), and heavyweight matte, plus a few pritable DVDs. I found that the profiles are very good right out of the box. I did upgrade to the new drivers from Epson before making any prints.

I found that soft proofing the paper in PSCS gave me a very good preview of the finished product. I added a curves layer to my print file while viewing the paper soft proof. I'd then add a bit of a 'S' curve to compensate for the matte paper. EXCELLENT. I couldn't believe the output from just the cheapo HW Matte with this little tweak.

I have one on the way from www.inkjetart.com. Have dealt with them for inks and papers. Seem to be very reputable. Have a tracking number that says it should be here on April 2.
