Hey all!
The mailman just dropped off my Phottix BP-450D (BG-E5 equivilent) and am very very happy!
Had it shipped with two LP-E5's for $100AUD total (the canon grip alone goes for $180-200)
Installing it was about a 20 second job, batteries are all charged up and loaded and it feels very comfortable and balances much better with the 18-200 IS. The rubber material used on the hand grip part matches the 450D PERFECTLY, even the same texture. The buttons feel solid (though slightly different to the ones on the camera) and overall, the product feels very very good in your hands, and everything functions as it should.

Can't wait to go out and shoot with it, and for anyone else wondering about the products quality, I'd say buy it! No problems here, you could get two with four batteries for the price of the BG-E5 alone...

The only issue I have found with the Phottix, on the 40D, is when changing batteries, the camera shows the battery level as low. The grip needs to be disconnected and reconnected with the batteries already installed.
Looking for a simpler ritual for battery swapping.

I have a Canon grip for my 40D and the instructions say that the grip must be installed and camera OFF before installing batteries or you will get a false low battery indication. I don't know if yours operates the same way but worth trying.

I'm positive I've tried the most obvious....power camera off, replace batteries, turn camera on.
I think I've tried all combinations but I will give that one a try, to be sure.

Please report back and let us know if this works with the Phottix grip too, as I am about to buy one soon for my 20D and 50D. Thanks.

Ok. I came home, pulled the batteries out, replaced them with another set and turned the camera on. Power shows FULL. Turned off, swapped back to the original batteries, turned on, showed FULL. Seems to be OK.

Thank you for the feedback. Now I can go ahead and order mine tommorow.
I have the Opteka brand for my Canon 400/XTi, not bad, but I heard that the version for Canon 20D/30D/40D/50D is not good, so I will change to Phottix.

I can't speak for the XXD models but the 450D/1000D model seems flawless - didn't have any false indicators when I changed batteries or anything.
I've also heard good things from other people about Phottix's other products. For the price, you can't really go wrong...

I have the phottix grip on my Xsi and it's Amazing definitely worth the price and is half the price of the canon grip and it comes with free batteries!

Nice :)
I'm planning to pick up the BG-E2N for my 40d next week maybe :). Hope I won't regret it.
