i did a search but cant find much relevant information for the xt and my questions.
i need one more battery for my rebel xt. a few questions:

1.) will non-canon batteries damage the circuitry?
2.) where can i find good batteries?
3.) will this battery (assuming it is non-canon) work with the canon battery I have (NB-L2H) inside a BG-E3 grip? (this is not as important to me, as i dont have a grip yet and may never get one.)
4.) will it charge on my CANON Charger?? (will the LED on the charger be accurate?)

No, link below, yes, yes. That firm sells all types of batteries, ignore that the thread's talking about BP-511s.

The BP511 works in the Drebel and 20D (not sure about the 10D). They used a different battery in the XT for size and weight purposes. The BP511 will NOT fit in a XT.

ahh thanks. so will this be my only option: http://www.sterlingtek.com/canbeqba80.html

also, will it PROPERLY charge in the canon charger, with proper LED light status, no overcharging, etc. ?

I meant get whichever battery you need from Sterlingtek.com , it works exactly the same as the Canon batteries, but usually better. They should work perfectly in the Canon charger, by BP511s do.

I have had no issues using generic batteries from ebay. Just pick a merchant with a good score card. I recently ordered a NB2L & 4L from Battery-Merchants. His score is 100% and shipping charges are fair. The battery received comes sealed in plastic shrink wrap in a blue box. I liked that over batteries from other folks that were just dropped loose in a shipping bag.
