Hi All

Great day by the looks of it. I had to be at work so could not attend.

Adam, liked your slow shots also and thought there may be a even more potential with your 2nd shot. As you have imaging allowed, hope you don't mind, I had a go. It's a bit harsh, but, I think i could see what you were thinking

Been wanting to try a slow shutter water pic in B&W for ages and im bored so just did a conversion in CS3 and it came out nice i think...
I think im gonna spend a few days at the beach(after a sensor clean!) doing some fine art work to sell :)

Im not posting mine directly after Dans, they are ridiculous shots, id be interested to know how the last 2 were done.. I love a bit of silhouetting, but mine dont come out quite like that, what do you meter on?

Kaben
4th of February 2009 (Wed), 17:08
I agree, with Lewwy, cant compete with your images Dan (your work flow is also ridiculously fast!).
This is only the second one i have edited and i did very little - this is out of the camera except for bw conversion and levels. I forgot to crop it, but im just too tired to do it right now!

Lol they are not all that, i prefer the beach ones personally and there are much better shots posted already than mine!
I spot metered between the arch for the arch pic and then on the lamp shot i metered for the sun then repositioned myself so the sun was behind the lightto get the halo effect.
I always meter for the brightest place in the image for silhouettes then reposition myself for the composition.. i find the black slider in lightroom helps too ;)

bubbawillums
4th of February 2009 (Wed), 17:18
Thats an awesome shot!!!! I'd boost the contrast a bit more personally to make it pop a bit more but thats just my style of processing and your pic is fine already!!

My workflow is all about raw conversion, no photoshop work done on any of these(apart from the blurry water ones) and my presets make things sooo much faster!! I have them for everything and just flick though each one to see what works on each image, apply the preset and fine tune to each pic with the sliders and done...
Color code the pic as blue as ready for export and move onto the next pic.. after all Raw conversions are done, filter by blue color, select all and export to folder as a hi res jpeg!
Job done...
Had to speed up the workflow as i got earache from the missus from always being on that bloody PC all the time!
Pay's the bills now woman to quit your jibber jabber!(hope she dont read this)!

Dan, you vision is great, love the B&W conversion. Can't beleive how fast your working through your images. Still using PS, i might have to try and figure out LR it seems you can work though images must faster in LR rather than PS.

Here hts 1st image i've tryed in LR, shame about the froth.

And seriously, you need to leave your exifs intact! I'm always trying to check them out on your photos and it makes me sad when I get that little popup error :(

Must be, cause they do get stripped. I usualy do an Edit In > Photoshop for the last couple of bit like sharpening and then save the web version from there so I don't know much about saving for web from lightroom.

Lots of use of the LR ND Grad tool.

I'm still on the previous version of lightroom. I've been in two minds whether to upgrade or not. I guess the two biggest things I might use are localised correction and grad tool. Do you guys use the LR colour profiles at all?

:D Thanks!

That'd be my 16-35L II, it still scares me how sharp it is.

Thats very interesting Chris, as the 16-35 I hired from Lensesforhire didn't compare against the 17-40 I hired along side it.... or maybe I just wasn't on form.... (shut up Elliott ;) lol )

Nice shots everyone :) .

Few from me.

No beach shots im afraid.
I did have a rather nice shot of a shell, with the sea and the sun behind it.. But apparently Elliot managed to process his shot quicker and whack it up.. I shouldnt have let him copy my idea really ;)

*hides*

Nice stuff Lewis. I think I should have given my 30mm a bit more camera time. That's the down-side to having too many lenses ;)

Just exporting my photos, then to upload to Flickr

Great shots all & sorry for not "quoting" the post and missing whose shots they were(this thread has moved darned quick) - the standout ones again for me are the pair of doves on the (church) window and the stained glass.

But did anyone get some of the Mermaid Inn and Jeakes House (and we have stayed in both a goodly number of years ago :) ) ~ I recall they are very photogenic buildings but perhaps all too commonplace i.e. too many images on the web already

I sent it off yesterday and with a bit of luck it should/could have got there today?
Thanks again for letting me borrow it - it would have been a very miserable day for me otherwise! It just made me reflect about how great a group this thread has, that more than one person was willing to lend their memory cards to someone who is essentially a complete stranger.
