Or as Chris Berman might say "meat at the dish". It is so nice to get outside and use some natural light:D hate gym lighting. Anyway, here is some text book blocking the dish, 1DMK2N, 400 f/2.8:

Sliding is for girls ... should have leveled the catcher IMO :)
Great shots man, you should be very pleased with the images

Awesome set! Yep, great technique by the catcher. Runner was a total dead duck at the plate. Good chance the 3rd base coach is no longer employed!
C'mon baseball!!!

I always liked the phrase Rich Eisen used to use on ESPN:
"Those who are late do NOT get fruit cup..."
Excellent sequence. Belongs in a baseball "How To" series.

Great shots...I was gonna say too bad you weren't on the other side....but now I'm not sure if it would looked better seeing the catchers face.

Awesome series. Makes me long for spring sports to start. (one more month, one more month.....)
I got one last year similar to that but the runner hit the catcher so hard it knocked his helmet and face mask off and you can see it sailing through the sky in the images. If I can find it tonight on my external ill post it up.

I love it. I can hear almost hear the ump - "Show me the ball!"
Is that the natural light or did you boost saturation?

I notice you're at f/2.8...how far were you from the plate?

This is a minor league stadium and I was at the far end of the dugout just past the first base bag.
I did boost the saturation and vibrance a touch in ACR, then just a quick crop and sharpen.
Here is another from the same game, a great try but just not quite there:

was this college ball? Also in college ball are you allowed to steam roll a catcher that is blocking the plate?
2nd to bad you were not in horizontal with your camera I think they would have been awesome.

Yes this is college ball and you are right, they can not blowup the cather.

We have a similar rule here in British Columbia Minor Baseball called "Slide or Avoid" which is designed to eliminate major "deliberate" collisions. Runner must simply slide into the defender or make some other evasive maneuver that does not involve running over catcher.
The last photo in this sequence is great! First one would have been nice to see from other side to see catcher's face.

Great pics! Love the look on the runner in the 4th pic. He's like "aww S#@%! I'm not touching the bag"

Last one's the keeper for me, personally need faces and all that but hard to do when you're just on the wrong side - can't predict the future....
They finally changed the bowling rule? I got yelled at in college ball by my coach for NOT bowling over the catcher, it was an exhibition game and wasn't going to hurt a guy for practice. As I got up he thanked me...6'3" 240 coming at him think he had to change after the play. Coaching high school our pitcher bowled a kid over last year to end the game, luckily ump didn't toss him even though it was over or it's an auto 2 game suspension.

The last one is my favorite too. If I had been in the other dugout I would have got the catcher but lost the runners face which unfortunatly is the team I shoot for.
In the last four years I have only seen running the catcher called once. We were lucky, our catcher survived.

I used to block the plate, but that was 38 years ago. Has it been that long?
Great action photos, I like 'em!

Great shots! Your editor should be pleased with these.. From a copy editors stand point, I would have liked to see the images in the horizontal orientation, but none the less, that is one of the better plate blocking sets I have seen in a long time!

I like the pictures as well, especially the 3rd picture. Where at in the stadium did you take this picture from?

Thanks. I was at the far end of the first base dugout, on the steps.

Its a shame that focus jumped on that 4th one. Shadows look a little blue too.
