View Full Version : PHOTO SAFARI...

Last night, I went on a "photo safari" with the San Diego chapter of ASMP. The shoot was held in the Little Italy section of downtown San Diego.

To partake in the shoot, you had to use a prop, which ASMP-SD provided, in any shots entered into the evening's photo contest. I used the prop in four of my shots. The prop, you ask? Necco Wafers.

Yeah, I know.

Still it was a lot of fun, and it forced me to shoot at night, using available light (I refused to use the onboard flash on my 300D). Anyway, these are some of the shots I ended up with. All of these were taken with the 300D and either the 50mm f/1.8 or the 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens.

Comments and critiques requested...

Various neighborhoods in San Diego have these neon signs:

This was outside a pizza joint called "Filippi's". The place was mobbed. There were, perhaps, 100 people waiting in line:

My first Necco Wafer shot:

And the second (you can read "Necco" on the wafer):

This was Nick, an Italian gentleman who was sitting on a narrow porch outside his apartment, just watching the evening pass by. He obliged me on my Necco-shot quest:

Not sure what I was trying to do with this shot, although I'm not completely dissatisfied with the result. I'm also not sure what I was thinking as far as the focus goes, but I kinda' dig the clouds:
