Just got the new lens today (tonight actually). I was hoping for better indoor low light shots with a zoom lens. If I did ny first attachment right, below is a shot at 1600 ISO at 70mm f2.8 1/20 sec. The lighting is the TV and two 75watt lamps. Hand held at about 10ft. Any suggestions? Camera settings?

1/20 is too slow a shutter speed to be handholding and getting sharp pictures. Try using a tripod and see how that turns out. Also, try focusing on the eyes of the subject since your DOF is very shallow.

I think that's a very nice picture. Perhaps not sharp enough to print, but a nice shot nonetheless.
I love my new 24-70.
Next to my 70-200 F2.8 IS, my now favorite lens.

I agree about focusing on the eyes. In this shot the focus seems to be on the head of the purple animal on his shirt, and that's fairly sharp. There's some movement artifact in the hands, but that might be the kid, not you. You did a very fine job of handholding at that focal length, with a heavy lens. And it's a nice composition.

Thank you for all your inputs. I will put them to work tonight.

Not a bad shot under difficult conditions. Esp. handheld at 1/20! Even the color balance is not too bad. Thanks for posting. That's a lens I am lusting after.
