As a new owner of a SX10IS, I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for a carrying "case". Most of my pictures are when I got to family events, or camping holidays, or music events/festivals. I had a small case for my old A70 which is too small for the SX10IS. Any suggestions or things to consider when looking for a carrying "case"???

be open to everything. You don't necessarily have to buy a "camera case" when walking around. What i looked for in my camera case was something that was as small and portable as possible, especially for the size of an sx10. On the other hand, a dslr is something worth protecting that much more, and thus that is when you should really consider protecting your camera.
be creative!

Hmmm, thannks for the thoughts. I'm probably most concerned with inadvertantly dropping or banging the camera but I'm not sure that I want a carrying case that hangs from my neck since the camera will do that. I've not has a camera that has a neck strap for decades so I'll be hanging around camera stores to see what I can get so my camera is hanging around my neck.

I always carry my camera in my case, and I bring all of my equipment (except the tripod) everytime I go somewhere. You never know when you'll need a polarizer, macro lenses, flash, etc. I bought a Tamrac Explorer 2 http://www.tamrac.com/5502.htm .

Many a great shots have been missed because the camera was burried in a case!

you wouldn't happen to live in Parskville and drive a lowered full-size Chev, would you?

I put the camera in a re-used diver's mask bag.

then it goes into either my small back-pack or shoulder bag (if I am on work).
If I am near places of interest, the mask bag will be unzipped & lens cap off. The handle is always facing up, when I reached in to grab the camera. At the same time, i can press the ON button.
This way, it still offers some protection for the camera, but not showing that I had a camera with me. (less tempting target in some riskier areas).

I find a crown royal bag works nicely for this size of camera heh heh ;)
