Anybody know how to sort the URLs saved as bookmarks in Firefox? I want them sorted alphabetically in Site Name order instead of in Date Added order which seems to be the default. I can't believe they coded this browser so that it takes a rocket scientist to do something as simple as sorting the bookmarks.

Thanks.

I just opened the bookmark manager, in the view menu you can sort by name, date added, location, keyword, and a few others. If you don't have those options then upgrade to 1.0.2 perhaps?

You would be right to not believe that. They haven't. Bookmarks > Manage Bookmarks > View. You will find 8 choices of how to sort them.

Alternatively, you can use the Bookmarks pull-down menu ... right click in the folder you want to sort and then choose "Sort by name".

This method doesn't offer the multiple options like Jim's, but it's quick and easy.

Yes, folks, there is a feature to sort the bookmarks when you are in the "Manage Bookmarks" panel. However, as soon as you get out of there and then try to go into one of the bookmark folders you'll see that the entries are still in "Date Added" order instead of the sort order you last put then in when you were in the "Manage Bookmarks" panel. Or am I missing something? ???

BTW, thanks for your replies. :)

I haven't used the "Manage Bookmarks", Leo. The tip I provided above refers to the normal pull down menu (as if you are going to choose a bookmark). Right click in either the top level folder or within any subfolder ... choose "Sort by name". Works for me ... (I'm using version 1.0.2).

You ARE missing something, and I find I am, too. When I experimented with this, it looked like some of them went to alphabetical and some didn't. Upon fiddling with it, it looks like the system might be labeling the bookmarked page differently than it appears to you. For instance, I had bookmarked a page, "Palm Beach . . ." and it came out at the top of my list whatever I did. When I went to that page, I find that the page itself is listed as, "About the Palm Beach . . ."

I thought I had changed it for my usage, but apparently Firefox didn't buy my change. When I more carefully changed the listing, it worked.

It's Saturday night and I'm worried about this crap. What does that say about me?"

Thanks, guys. Appreciate the come back. I guess I'll have to wait until Monday so that I can download Firefox 1.0.2 from work. I'm on a dialup at home so it'll take forever to download the 4 MB for the PC and 8 MB for Mac (wonder why Mac's is so much bigger? ??? ) from home. :)

BTW, it looks like this is fixed in Firefox 1.0.1, which I have on my work laptop. My home PC is the old 0.9 and the Mac is on Firefox 1.0.
