OK, so I have done a few automotive shots, and feel very comfortable working with cars as I am a bit of a car nut. I have an opportunity to work for a rather large custom auto shop that does everything from frame off resto's of the classics to one off custom imports. The want to be able to have me shoot both outside and inside in a studio which they have offered to build at their warehouse. I have an area that is about 150ft x 150ft that they will be letting me use. So this is where I need help.

1. how big should the backdrop be, and is white the best color or is 18% grey better.
2. Lights (I have 6 WL 1600's) so I basically need to know the # of lights I should use along with the proper location and modifiers to have.

This is my first post here so be gentle, and I would really appreciate as much help as possible. I know this sounds like a dream for most shooters, and trust me it is for me, so I would like to do it right.

I have done a search but cannot find anything specific to automobile studios

Cheers
Rick

Thanks a lot for the link guys, definitely looking in to doing something along the lines of the 40’ deep x 14’ high eggshell.

You should have at least 9 lights, 1 multiblitz for background, 4x direct or honey comb 1600w lights (Shape put the car), and 4x direct or with larger honey combs 1600w lights or lower (details of the car). And i'm talking all in one photo...

Make sure you have all sorts of stands low to high for the light, including 3 super booms, which is crucial. or maybe 4... if you want to do side shots....
