Not sure what you mean about expertise... but i'ev been using a Tamrac Velocity 7 to carry my 300D on a motorbike since January, and it's fine for me.

I have used both and found them very usefull for a small amount of kit. The 9 is better suited to DSLR than the 7 is. You will only be able to carry a couple of small lenses and one mid range zoom with room for little else.
Bag build quality is excellent and the over the shoulder approach works well for easy bag access.
Cheers,

I bought the 7 recently and am pretty satisfied with it. Easy to carry around and you can carry a total of 3 leses easily.

I have the velocity 9.
I like the way it works and hold my camera.
BUT after only having it for a month or so (probably 10 or so uses) the cloth part of the strap has frayed. This is the part that is sown to the adjustment strap. The adjustment strap is only sown to the one fabric layer and it is this fabric that is fraying and now I don't use it out of fear that the strap will break.

I'd defo take this back and ask for a new one.

I've had that happen to the straps on Tamrac bags also.
Return it.
I have the velocity 9. I'm able to carry my 1DSMKII with 70-200F2.8IS attached, my 17-40 to one side, flash on the other, and epson p2000 in the outside pocket.
The strap is too short, the buckle rubs on my back. Overall, it's a good bag, but I'm still in search of the perfect one, if it exists.

I recently spent 7 months travelling the US using a Velocity 9, a great bag but although it's deigned so that you're meant to be able to access your camera by swinging it around to your front I found this rather difficult to do and usually had to totally remove it to access my gear. Still it's comfortable to carry and holds a fair amount a gear. Plus it doesn't look like a camera bag and thus may prove to be a bit less likely to be a target for bag snatchers!

I have the Velocity 7 bag. Today I went to the Botanical Gardens, and in my bag I had a 70-200 f4 w/lens hood, a 420 ex flash, a18-55 kit lens. 8 batteries, I also had the 550 ex in the bag also.
I carried the camera on my shoulder with the Tamron 180 on it.
I like the V7. It isn't to big, yet it isn't to small, and can hold a good amount of equipment.
Ofcourse on a regular day I carry the 70-200. 18-55 on DSLR, and a 50mm f1.4/1.8 (or similar sized lens.) .

I have both the 7 and the 9. I bought the 7 for my 10D and it was fine until I bought the battery grip. Even then it fit, just a little snug. You don't say what kind of travel or what you are planning to pack.

In my Vel9 I have (with me right here on a trip to the UK):
20D w/28-200 attached + battery grip
16-15L, 50mm 1.8. 1.4xtc on the left side
100-400 L IS on the right side
Top zip pouch has AA batteries and a CF wallet
Front zip portion has 550EX and 420EX, lens pens, remote shutter release.
Front pouch has a battery charger.
With the two Tamrac side lens holders (currently removed), I can distribute like this:
Main bag: 20D/28-200, 100-400, 16-35:L
Front Zip: 550ex, MT-24 Ringlight
Lens Pouch: 100mm 2.8 macro
Lens Pouch: 50mm & 1.4xtc
Note that this isn't a whole lot less than I fit in my Expedition backpack.

I have the 9 and love it! But the bottom lens compartments are a pain to get to!

Tell me, do you guys carry all your lens for hiking or any kind of trip?
I've found that it's just way too heavy too lug around everything I have and I only have few lenses and some flash. I've decided too carry just essentials. It's little too heavy for me...LOL.

For me it depends on what I *think* I might need. For this trip, I brought the 28-200 (good walk-around lens), 100-400L (in case I shoot some birds in the park), the 16-35L (architecture and model), and the 50mm 1.8 (street work at night, any serious DoF work). I left the 100mm macro at home - don't think I'll use it. Sometimes I'm wrong, sometimes I'm right!
