w00t!!! So freaking excited!!! Ordered an SD 790 IS

Soooo I wasn't sure what to get (hence the other thread), but I've been doing research and did a few hrs of intensive research tonight...and I've just ordered an SD 790 IS :) Should be here in 4 weeks, apparently!

I have 3 DSLRs, and usually use my 20D with a BG-E2N grip and my Sigma 10-20 as a walkaround, but sometimes it'd be nice not to drag the big camera around, plus sometimes it'd be nice to have the extra length (105 mm eqiv on the 790) without having to carry around another body (30D with a 70-200L)...

This will join my family's family of Canons :) Aside from my 10D/20D/30D, my parents have an A510, my brother has an SX100, my g/f has an SD1000 and my g/f's parents have an SD770 IS...all thanks to me :)

Get a belt case (it looks like a phone) at Staples for about $14. US (or the canon case for more) and always carry it, the photo opps are amazing. I take my SD every where even out to dinner or a show, Got a great shot out the window from a restaurant the other day.

I'm not sure about belt cases (never got into them for phones either)...but I'm DEFINITELY buying a Lowepro case ASAP! (just waiting for the camera to get here, so I can make sure I buy a bag that fits perfectly)

Great thing: any Lowepro case will fit perfectly with my Lowepro backpack for the big boys :)

haha I ordered it from Air Miles (nothing like FREE!! ;) ), pretty sure they just say 4 weeks to cover their asses...I'm visiting my g/f in 2 weeks, really hoping it'll be here by then :)

If you're in a local Dollarama they have a couple of smaller Lowepro case for 2$ each.

d-ohh! I totally forgot about Dollarama...I just bought a bag today...oh well, haven't used it and still have the receipt, so if I find one at a D-rama I'll just buy that and return my current bag :)

I was telling a friend that I feel like an expectant mother...buying diapers, the crib, those plugs that go into the sockets, etc...as I have everything I want, just waiting for the actual camera lol

So how are things going, are you satisfied with the camera, I checked the SD790 CHDK forum and things seem to be progressing well, looks close to done

Well, to tell you the truth, I'm not crazy about the camera just yet (though I think the CHDK will change that)...I mainly got it for video (planning a roadtrip to the Grand Canyon this summer), but it bothers me that I can't change any of the settings...it's pretty noisy in low-light conditions, but it takes pretty sweet pictures on a sunny day outside...it's very sharp and has great colours and, to be fair, all my complaints would be the same for ANY compact camera (I have 3 DSLRs and at least one is with me just about 24/7, so I'm not used to what compacts do haha)

Let me know if the CHDK is done for the 790, please, because I'd love to see what that will do :)

I use CHDK with both of my SD's, Shooting RAW and processing with RAW Thearpee helps with the low light noise a bit, Still I don't find the noise all that bad. Looks like they are beta testing the port for the SD 790 now, check it out. I am still beta testing CHDK on my SD 900 and SD990
