hey guys. so i'm thinking of purchasing a fisheye filter on the cheap just to play around with. problem is its a 67mm thread and the lens i want to play with it on is 72mm thread. would a 72-67mm step down ring really be that bad of an idea on the filter since vignetting is already going to occur anyways? any help would be great. thanks.

Very bad idea. Period.

It can't be that bad for experimenting sake. That way if you don't like fisheye photography or don't use it often enough, you haven't spent $500 on a lens to find out.
However you should at least look for a filter with a 72mm thread.

I forgot to mention, you can apply the fisheye effect to any of your photos in Photoshop without spending any money.

Oh, and another thing you have to keep in mind - the optics of that fish eye really suck. My buddy has one and it was the worst $40 he's ever spent.
If you have a nice camera - whynot get a half decent lens for it. Stop being cheap.
