This year I managed to get out and photograph the traditional Purim maskarade carnaval which occurs in Tel-Aviv every year. For those who aren't familiar - Purim is a Jewish holyday and a big celebration, during which everybody have to wear masks or to paint themselves (faces and bodies). In short - this is one of the most happiest, colorful and nice to photograph celebrations (especially for kids) !

The following images are part of this gallery (http://www.pbase.com/olegis/purim_2005&page=all) :

What, no Merdechai ? :D

As always, great shots, Oleg! Excellent job on the entire albom, too!

Cheers,
Felix

Is this what I think I am seeing ;) : http://www.pbase.com/olegis/image/41260720

I didn't you know that you Israelis were wild like that...I've always had you pegged as being much much more conservative than that! :)

Very nice Oleg...I am glad that you are able to bring something like this to the rest of the world.

:) Haha, good one! Maybe long time ago, before the Soviets were let in the country...

Great captures of the modern day Israel... it seems that the festival doesn't have much in common with the actual Purim story other than the name and the date of the celebration... ;)

Cheers!

Yes, Pradeep - this is EXACTLY what you are seeing :D That one beats me - this carnaval was supposed to be a celebration mainly for children

Conservative ? Us ? No way ! There are the religious people who are conservative indeed, but the public in general is very free and "wild" ;)
