I have 3 540EZ flashes that i use for strobist work. Im looking for some softboxes and shoot-through umbrellas that will work with them. I do fullbody, head shot, and half body portraits. Im not looking to spend a fortune so the lower price the better without sacrificing too much. I was recommended a apollo 28" but have been reading that its not that great? I made a homebade softbox out of a box my computer chair came in and a white pillow case and got this(excuse my whiteness):

So im sure i dont need million dollar softboxes. It would also be nice if they could be compatible with studio strobes if i decide to go that route in the future. Should I be looking into multiple of each or maybe 1-2 shoot throughs and 1 softbox?

Since you already made a DIY softbox, line it with aluminum foil and then add another pillow sheet between the flash and the outer pillow sheet. That should even out the light coming out of your softbox. :)

When you get your strobes, get a softbox that is appropriate for it. You don't want to use a softbox that works with your Speedlites.

The umbrella, however, is a different story. You should be able to share the umbrella between the strobe and the Speelite.
