I've been phoning camera shops and checking on the Internet (Canon's closed), but can't find it.
I ordered an SD790 IS last night and I want to get a memory card for it...I want to get something SLIGHTLY better than what the camera can do, so I'm not limiting the camera's performance with a crappy card. But, I don't want to get anything too much faster 'cuz then I'm just wasting money on a fast card my camera can't utilize.
So...here's my question...what is the write speed of a Canon SD790 IS? Thank you :)

Most any card on the market, certainly any reliable one like SanDisk, will be plenty fast enough for your camera. So pick up a SanDisk "blue" regular card and relax. I buy Extreme III and Extreme IV, but that's because my 1D3 can use them. My various A-series PowerShot models have all been camera-limited, not card-limited.

Well, I found a great deal on some 8 gig PNY cards that write at 4 MB/sec...I think I'll pick those up...according to Canon (who won't release the actual write speed) a 4 MB/sec will perform the same as 10MB/sec, leaving me to think the camera writes slower than 4 MB/sec haha
I usually hate high-capacity cards - all my cards are 1, 2 or 4 gigs -, but we're going on a 2 or 3 week roadtrip this summer and I'll be using the sd790 mainly for video which, as I understand, is rather memory-intensive.

It is - about 9 min/GB in my experience. And that's "real" GB, not the "marketing" GB where they change all the trailing digits to 0, so for the maximum clip length, you need a card that's bigger than 4 GB.

thanks...so I should be good with a pair of 8 gig cards...plus, thankfully you can pick up SD memory at just about every store, so if I run out I can always buy more :D
