Hello all, first post, newish to the site (been lurking around picking up tips for a while). purchased a 300d a few months ago (First SLR) to try and get some decent pics coupled with a grip and 75-300 USM. Motorcycles are my primary interest although i am trying all motorsports for practice. Here are some from today at Wyedean Rally. Comments/criticism welcome.
Cheers Nick.

Welcome Nick,
Yours will be the first of many know doubt.
I was there too, great event in the snow and ice.
These look really good, well exposed, clear and sharp, though too tight in the frame for me perhaps.
Post a few more (you can have 8) ,I would love to see them.
Thanks,
Pons

Thankyou for the comments, at the moment i am trying to capture the action and forget to look at what is in the background/side of the frame hence the cropping. It was a great event in difficult conditions( i got stuck in the snow twice)..!! Here are a couple more #1 is not cropped so heavily and #2 has had no processing other than resize and watermark.

Hi Nick....
Its great that you have an interest But I say now as your just beginning "Think outside the box" Cars can be a little mundane to look at Nick, Get that camera on Manual and go and have fun learning.... there are some examples of that "Thinking outside the box" here.....
www.rally-shots.com (http://www.rally-shots.com)
Youll see thousands of motorsport image galleries look at them and youll understand..... try and make your images your own style be diffrent Please!!!!!

Very nice shots indeed Nick and even more so for your first post. Agree with some of the comments about them been too tight a crop but still good results. Just one comment i have is to lower your shutter speed, 1000th & 1250 is far too high as 250/320th is ample for rallying plus enabling you to keep low iso's

Thankyou all, these were taken in sports mode so shutter speed was dictated by the camera, im trying to get some pics in the bag so i can analyze the data before i go into manual mode. Your advice has been taken onboard.

Hi Nick, sports mode explains high shutter speeds then. Stick it in shutter priority 250th ish and adjust the aperture and iso accordingly. Its all about trying diffferent setting and getting to know the camera and you'll soon find out where you need to be.

The Ascona is the pick of the bunch, very nice indeed. Interesting that i started out with the same set-up (300D & 75-300 USM) and never got anything as nice as that.
As for the comments about framing, i suggest you ignore them and shoot how you wish. :)

A good point Darren, but the 300D is a bit limiting in that you can't get AI Servo outside of Sport Mode without one of the firmware hacks or a bit of manual trickery...even then it's not perfect.

nice clean crisp shots, Gwynne in the Saxo is the pick for me though, Manta one is a bit too tight for me
