Please answer the following questions:

1. What do you usually shoot? (people, landscapes, animals etc)

2. What metering setting is your favorite and why?

I wanted to get some feedback from you guys here regarding metering. I have a good reason but don't want to divulge it before I get feedback as my purpose may sway some people's opinion/answers.

Thanks!

1. Sports

2. Manual. I use a handheld meter (generally to obtain an incident reading). My preference is to meter manually for full control over all aspects of the exposure... and for greater consistency of exposure.

I shoot mostly Landscapes and then people.

I change metering modes dependent on the situation, but walking around I tend to have it set at AV.

Landscape, Nature

Manual Mode -- easier control for minor exposure changes

Partial metering -- I understand how to meter and compensate. Matrix/Evaluative is too hard to figure out what the camera is doing

1. Landscapes and general nature, including macro.

2. Varies on lighting, but for tricky situations, I use an external, Pentax Spotmeter. Very helpful for figuring out full range of exposure possiblities, along with the techniques from Charles Campbell's ChromaZone system.

That, combined with blending images to give more dynamic range, have been (for me) a breakthrough with digital.

Half Dressed females, Babies, old things, sexy femaly feet, landscapes.

I meter off a grey card when possible with an old world war 2 argus meter!
Or I meter in tv and set the shutter speed how I want and take a reading of all elements that I will photographing with my in camera meter. Then I average the aperture out mathmatically with some common sense involved as well. Confused? Sure hope so.. then I switch to manual and dial in my settings.

1. Anything that moves, and also things that don't ;)

2. Av mode, usually center weighted metering, but it depends on the scene. I'll often use partial metering if the scene has high contrast, and I often tweak the EC.
