Now to clear things up i mean how to take pictures of pregnancy and baby, not how to do it ;) :D

My wife's due with our first in July and she's gradually starting to show, i would like to get some nice shots of her as she grows etc. Then after the birth i want to take many many shots of little 'Wotsit', anybody got any tips for either of these?

I have never really taken portrait/people shots so don't know best how to compose subjects etc. The baby shots i really like are things like http://www.robfitch.com/images/frame/artistic-baby-photography.gif although my guns aren't as big as his :D

Any tips at all would be really useful, what sort of length of lens will be best? i have the 18-55 kit lens at the mo and am looking to upgrade, would it be better to take photograph the baby from further away? or closer? I also have a 'nifty fifty', i presume that would be ok for some shots?

Sorry if this has all been asked before, but i couldn't find much on it, unless i'm being blind!!

Thanks in advance!
