I LOVE A-dam! The details in the 500 year old buildings go on forever. (ref the woodwork and stained glass juxtaposed against the gritty masonry above). The wood adds a real oasis amidst a sea of stone feel. That said, the blown out sky is pretty distracting from what should be grabbing the eye - the windowshopper and his potential prizes. I wonder what a slightly higher vantage point would have yielded? (perhaps no better...just wondering)

A little difficult getting the higher vantage point. I had my 20D w/10-22 high on my chest. I put cable release in my pocket. Very solid white day sky wise. I was trying to get awayfrom the people thinking your taking their pic. I guess I could darken the sky a little with PP.

<--10-22 is definatly next on the (long) list.
Do you find A-damers to be camera shy? (Camera suspicious)
The only shooting I've done in Amsterdam was early morning and people weren't a factor.

No more suspicious than anyone else. I just figured to get the most candid shot, I should go that route. Actually planning on doing that for 15 days on my upcoming Europe trip. Use one body as the candid camera and the other one will be used normal.

They definitely are camera hostile in the Red Light District - but ONLY there.
