test video clip using SX10 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rt4oTeqZdRQ)
I took a short clip of my 1st snow fall of this year in Europe (Frankfrut).
Somehow, I had the SX100 habit of "press the shutter button" to stop the video.
I did that at the 37th second. The video clip showed this action with a "snap" & click sound !
Hmm...wondering if I can switch off this recording of snap & click sound for future photo within video mode ?

According to page 92 of the manual, the electronic sounds are turned off automatically during movie shooting. You might just be hearing the mechanical sounds of pushing the button.

If you replay the clip, on the 37th sec, when I had snapped a photo, the shutter sound & still frame did appear.

I think that is the actual sound of the mechanical shutter.
If you think about it, the two microphones and the shutter are mounted on the same physical frame, the camera. While shooting, if you tap on the camera, the mikes will pick up the noise. The shutter clicking on the camera is the same and I am sure cammot be eliminated. Just the artificial beeps are turned off.

Tried my SX10 to see if the noise was present during video playback, and it was, slightly annoying to be honest. But if thats the way it is, then at least I know not to take stills if the video is important.

I doubt you could make a camera with a mechanical shutter that would take a picture during video shooting that could NOT record the noise of the shutter snapping. It is just something we need to be aware of.

taking stills during a video can add a contrasty effect to the movie. i don't mind having the feature.

No you cannot turn off the click sound in the video.

When a photo is taken, the shutter will open and close to take the picture. This MUST cause an audible mechanical noise (even if the camera is silenced) due to the moving parts. I do not think anything can be done about this.

it is not the mechanical noise that I was saying.
Look at the video clip, at the 37th second, there is the motion of someone taking a photo. A kinda snap shot action but the click (loud shutter click).
