Hey those pics are not bad! Looks like you need a faster f-stop maybe.

Fun stuff that auto x :D

I would try a faster f-stop. Other then that, great!

I think the sun was pretty brutal that day. Lots of cruddy sun in the wrong places. But sometimes that's life. I think there's promise with these. I think working at your panning technique would be your biggest help. Lots of people say rotate at the hips works for them. What do you use for your focusing point? do you use ai focus when shooting?

Are you in Maryland? If so i think i know the guy that owns that black Civic, his name is AJ

EDIT: upon closer inspection of the photo i see his rubber duckie on the rear view mirror, and the decal on the passenger mirror saying Rubber duckie racing so i know for sure that is him.

Thanks for the advice, hopefully by the end of next season I will have some really compelling pictures.

Just to clarify on nomenclature, bump my f-stop from say 5.6 to 4.0?

@ gorveatt

That is AJ he was running two cars there, very good and consistent times in each

Here's another of the civic, Missed the shot, so it didnt make it in the original post but I like it.

I wouldn't suggest changing your f-stop. Set your camera to Tv and depending on how fast the cars are going change your shutter speed. This will allow you to get a good wheel blur while the car is in focus. But practicing your panning technique will help more than changing your f-stop. Next time try using the center focusing point and practice following a certain point on the car like the mirror or a headlight. This will help get the car into focus better. I hope these tips help, they helped me get better.
I think with your current shots, 1/250th of a second is pretty good for you to work with. As you get more practice you can try slower and slower. good luck.

It's good to see he's still AutoX'ing, he does pretty good with that. I haven't talked to him in ages, him and I were both on Hondacivicforum.com, I was an admin for a long time, still technically am i think but i haven't been on there in like 4 months now.
