Anyone using Calumet rolling case?

I see that you can purchase the insert for these separately and I'm wondering if I could use one to customize a hiking pack. If anyone has one of these, I'm curious to know how rigid the walls of the insert are (both sidewalls and front/back) and also the rough dimensions of the insert.
