Here's a shot from my daytrip to the zoo here. Shot with my 40D and a borrowed 70-300 by Sigma. I did a little CC with Canon's Digital Photo Professional software. Please let me know what you think.

Liked the image but loved it if I could see both the eyes.

I have to agree with manga here...would love to have seen both eyes. As a general rule, critter shots are like "people" shots in that they are usually more effective when the subject is actually looking at the camera. A much tighter crop towards the face would have been nice too.

Composition is unusual and elegant. Shadows generally are good, but success and failure definitely rests on those eyes. Two are better than one, but even more important is getting enough light and detail in them. In such a setting, there's not a lot you can do except keep snapping and hope for the best, then lighten and sharpen in post-processing. Cheers, Tony
