Well I'm leaving for Las Vegas in about two months [April], and I was wondering if any of the photographers here could assist me in recommending me a good pair of lenses to help me capture decent photos of the city day and night.

I really want to be able to capture decent colorful night lights of the Las Vegas Strip ! So if anyone could give me tips on how I could capture decent night photos of the city lights, I would truly be thankful.

Under my sig is what kind of newbish gear I have. I feel as if the 18-55mm kit lens limits me, but thats just me....Its actually the only lense I have hahahah !

This is a sample from the last time I went. I'm not satisfied !

I think you might really like the 85mm 1.8 and the 35mm 2.0. I have both and they are both really good in low light, and they take extremely sharp and lovely photos because they are primes. Not only that, but they are fairly inexpensive. Those would be my suggestion. However, I am mostly a Newbie also.

A fast prime as previously suggested could be a benifit at night. In reality the choice on lenses is pretty much wide open. Wide angle, closeups or both? Budget and shooting style are also considerations.

A monopod and/or tripod would be a better idea. Even with a fast lens and IS a tripod can't be beat for serious photography. Some folks are pretty good at hand holding at slower shutter speeds - some aren't. One thing I use fairly often when I don't want to or can't carry a full size tripod is to use one of the mini portable tripods.

Well, I'm no expert, but I sure like to have a wide angle with telephoto capabilities when I'm doing scenes. I love my 17-55L. That's pretty pricey, but there are some lower priced alternatives I'm sure. Hopefully someone will chime in soon on which ones they like.
