Hello to all. I cannot get my Canon D60 to read my external flash. The camera works great with the built in flash but will not sync with an external one. I tried the flash on my EOS 3 and it worked fine. Something must be wrong with my camera. Can anybody help me?

Some background:

2. What speed and mode do You use in the camera?

3. CF settings, Have You selected fill or nott fill flash on the CF settings?

4. Have You selectet first or secound curt. sync?

I just had the camera in Program Mode. It is a Vivitar Flash. I was thinking of going to my local camera store and testing a Canon Flash on my camera.

If you can answer the four questions from Roine, that would be helpful.

For example, which Vivitar flash?

I have an old Vivitar 252 that has about 190 volts on the hot shoe foot, and that is not compatible with the hot shoe socket on the D60.

I went to the camera store today and tested the camera. The salesperson said that a regular flash would burn the circuits of the D60. I needed a Canon brand flash specifically for the D60. We tested one in the store and it worked just fine. Thank god I didn't fry my camera! Why didn't I know this before?

So, you tested one at the store and it worked.

Which one? There are several Canon flash units, and only about one is the correct one.

Did you buy it?

The flash we tried was a Canon 550 EX. No I didn't buy it. I will soon though.
