#1 is very cool, great geometry!
#2 is a bit too cluttered, and the sun has too much flare imo, but the conversion is good.

I'm with Matt... first shot is good... better exposure, diagonals, lead in lines, the bridge carries the eye through the image a bit, though it would have been better from a higher viewpoint accentuating passage through the scene. Climb a tree I say!
Second one is harsh and the eye is just lead bang up the middle. Again, compare that to #1 and the way it swirls the eye over so much more of the picture.
Cheers, Tony

1. is very good. I agree that 2 doesn't lead the eye, and the sun is distracting.

The dynamics/flow of #1 are definitely better than #2 and lend better to b&w

Picture one has great shadows in it and the bridge really adds to this picture. Nicely done!

I agree that #1 is a keeper!! :O
I could almost count the triangles in it.... could make for an amazing study in zig-zag lines!

Another vote for #1.

I'll jump on the band wagon here and throw in a vote for #1. But what I think makes the photograph is not the bridge, but the leading lines created by the shadows of the trees to support the direction your eye takes following the brige. Well done.

Thanks everyone :) I agree, I prefer #1 also. With #2 I was trying out shooting into the sun, and I don't think it really worked.
With all the shots, I was intrigued by the dark shadows on the white snow. Here is another concentrating on shadows (again, not as a complete picture as #1, but I still like it)
