I'm a complete newbie to those sites and I'm wondering how do I use it effectively to sell my stuff? How do sellers verify that a buyer is credible and not a scammer? Is there a rating system similar to ebay? I realize I should use common sense when selling and don't be rush to get an item to be sold. Any advice on how to get started would be greatly appreciated!

If you use them, don't send anything, only do local sale. You meet the buyer, show him the item and take the money before he leaves with it.

When I use Craigslist--I meet in person--try the gear out--download to my laptop to verify function--and only deal in cash.

Oh ok and I'm assuming both are free to use unlike Ebay right?

They're internet versions of newspaper classifieds. They hook a seller up with a buyer but they do not have ANY kind of oversight. Exercise the same caution as you would if you placed or responded to a newspaper listing.

How does the buyer contact me if I put something up for sale?

There isn't a PM system in either Craigslist or Kijiji?

Here's another question in regards to Craigslist. So I just created an account. I decide to search up a for sale thread just to see how people are creating their posts, but I don't see contact information in some of them. In one post for example, he's just asking for people to contact him and yet I don't see any contact information. Do I click on the "reply to" link and send him an e-mail? It just says "sale-10223232453@craigslist.org" and I don't think that's his e-mail address? Or that is just to disguise his e-mail address and I can just e-mail him something and it'll automatically forward the request to him?

Craigslist hides your e-mail if you want, so you won't get spam after you have sold your item. The ppl interested will e-mail that e-mail address and craigslsit will forward it to you.

It is really easy to use. Just bought my 40D off there. Just make sure you meet in person and get cash. Don't ship as most of the ppl requesting this are scammers.

Yes, when you post an ad there is somewhere on Kijiji or Craiglists that will allow the potential buyer to send you an email.

When the seller receives the email, he has an option to respond, or not to. If the potential buyer has provided a phone number, he could call, and never give his email address out. Or, he can reply from his crapmail.com account and not disclose his email. It's just a protection for the seller against the problems out there.

I posted an ad on Kijiji a while back. Got a legit looking email from someone asking for details. I sent some details, and sure enough, I got a spam email the next day.. from "Kijiji" saying I had to login to my account to fix something immediately. Of course I looked closely and it wasn't really from Kijiji. The only one who knew I used that email address for Kijiji was the "buyer" I had replied to.

Thanks for the responses guys. Can I just copy and paste that craigslist e-mail address into my gmail account to send an e-mail to the individual? If I just click on that link, it'll just launch Outlook Express on my computer.

Also, when I'm exchanging e-mails with the guy through Craigslist, will my real e-mail address be revealed to him? Or Craigslist will continue to act as the middleman and hide my e-mail address?

Yes, and yes. You can take the Craigslist email address into gmail and send the individual an email. Yes, he will see your email address, and if he replies to you, you will learn his.

I've never used Craigslist. Is there a charge to post items for sale?
