Having been a member of this forum for a short time, I am an avid reader and poster though.
To my memory, I have not seen mention of the 28-300.
Does anyone own this lens? Seems to be a great range but very expensive.
Is this lens a poor stepsister that has fallen between the proverbial cracks of the 70-200 and the 100-400?

No, it's a current lens. I owned it until recently and sold it to free up some cash for a couple new telephotos.
It replaces the older 35-350L, and it's a decent lens. Personally, I never felt it was worth the money, though. Construction and quality is very similar to the 100-400L.

Is it a push-pull also?

It is a lens designed for the PJ community, replacing the old 35-350 which served many a photo journalist over the years. It is a push-pull design, like the 100-400, but unlike the 100-400 has weather sealing. The main purpose of the lens is to give the PJ in the field the largest focal range at reasonable quality so he/she does not have to swap lenses. It is the image quality, particularly at the short end, that would put off most people and that is one reason you see little of it here. For a PJ it is ideal however, as image content takes precedence to pixel-perfect quality.

I own the lens and I really like it. I shoot a lot of sports action and I use is for the same reaseon wide varity of wide to tele. I also use a 100 to 400 with a 1.4. the lens is very sharp. I really like the push pull. no it's not as sharp a my 24- 70 f2.8 but does give me very good results in most situations even using it as a macro. I find a bit heavy but the reults more than make up for it. True it is very similar to 100-400

Here's the lens at around 250mm f/5.6. My cat was wrapped up in a ball and I loved the tail being out of focus. My concentration was on the eye area. I wish I had a little more aperature but I took what I had.

Radar, very nice picture.
I was just showing it to two co-workers, one who lives in Garnerville and the other in Nyack, minutes from the Mall.

Oh yeah? I'm in Nanuet. Forums can be a small world! Edgar is a Maine Coon kitty. He sometimes looks to cute, only I won't have a camera handy of course. Loads of camera gear, none to be found when needed at home.
