I took a walk around the neighborhood with my 20D and my new Sigma 80-400mm and managed a few shots I like. I like the lens, but it requires that you stand back a ways. Here's one - the rest are on my photo site:

The Sigma 80-400mm is anything but a macro lens, but I just got it and wanted to take advantage of the last day of sunny weather for a while. For this kind of shot, I plan to get something that lets me get a little closer.
But I'm pretty pleased with how this new Sigma performs. If I can get back far enough, it seems to produce very nice looking images. None of the Spring Flowers shots on my pbase site were manipulated other than reducing their size and some mild sharpening. What you see is what the Sigma produced. I'm going to like this lens I think....:D

which parameter do you use on your 20D?
Do you keep all your settings at 0, or do you have them adjusted?

I had intended to switch to Parameter 2 because I intended to reduce them for web display, but forgot and left my camera on Parameter 1. Thus there was some in-camera sharpening prior to my reducing the images and sharpening again. Not the best way to do things, but it is helping me to realize I need to stop and consider before I go out and shoot. I was just so anxious to get a few shots in with the new lens that I forgot to make the setup change.
That said, it doesn't seem like the images suffered too much from being sharpened in camera prior to reducing, but I may not be looking for the right artifacts.

I think even on P1 is not harsh. The images look great. Your getting good colors from that lens.
Could you take a image at the longest focal lenth. I would love to see what it looks like.
I am getting into flower photo's also myself.

OK, this is one I didn't originally process because I didn't care for it, but it was taken with the 20D at 400mm with the Sigma 80-400mm OS:
