View Full Version : Winter wedding 7 Feb. with the 5D MarkII

Two days ago I used the 5D MarkII for the first time and it definately was the right choise for this afternoon wedding in a small church with really bad lightning, especially since the ceremony started one hour before sunset! Luckily, the couple had decided to have the portrait session before the ceremony so I had at least some natural lightning from the windows for the portraits (being ourtdoors in Sweden in February was not an option according to the bride - it was cold and foggy and she didn't want to spoil her curly hair, which I understand under those circumstances!).
In church I used ISO 5000 and the result is quite okay!
Some photos from my blog.

Thanks!
I used 50mm 1.4 for most of them, but also 100mm 2.8 macro (the ring shot) and 16-35mm 2.8L (the castle).
Usually the 135mm 2.0L is my favourite for (outdoors) portraits but I couldn't use it that much because the room where I shot the portraits was so small!

These are great, you need to post larger photos! Was #7 off camera flash or another light source?

pictures look sharp but only because the images are so small. Why do people do that?

I can assure you, it is not only because they are small. If a photo isn't sharp in 100% crop I wouldn't use it and show it to my clients at all. Maybe I shouldn't post it here at all, is that what you mean?
I post the same photos here as on my blog and with a very buzy schedule and limited time for other than client work I simply don't make special versions for this site. What I want is mainly to be able to show some photos for the bride and groom (and all their guest) really quick but I also need to consider the size - I won't post photos big enough for small prints!
whoadude: That shoot it actually pure luck. My assistent was shooting from behind with his Speedlight 580 and that is what you can see!
roddy: I haven't looked at all images from the church yet but I have worked with a few. I think I will keep them as they are without any noise reduction. Sure, the grain is visible in 100% but given the huge files from the MarkII and in black and white I really don't think it will show to much on the album prints.
Thanks for the nice comments!

The color is absolutely fabulous. The only slight nitpik I might have is the use of the tilted horizon a bit much. But you do it well.

Linda, this is gorgeous work. 2 and 7 are my favorite. Was that flare added in pp? I'm guessing it was....

Thanks!
I have only used it once yet and haven't really put it to test so far, but the high ISO possibilities is worth everything for me because I often struggle with dark churches and I am really not into flash photography during a wedding ceremony.
I have heard people complaining about the AF but for me that worked flawless.
I have an up coming wedding this week as well and maybe I'll post some photos from that wedding as well.

Linda, thanks for the reply. I also shoot events in dark conditions. Did a concert on Sat. with my 3 day old 5DII, was blown away by the high ISO as well. Thanks and hope to see you post more. I watch this part of the forum and the mods welcome members who post.

Very nice pictures.... the only thing that catches my weird eye is #3's kiss. Looks very erotic which isn't a bad thing. But wowie. Very sharp pictures. Is there a lot of post-production done to these to make them look like that? I'm sure not ;) thanks for sharing.
