Hi All,

A friend of mine has a 400D and a Canon 50mm f1.4 lens. He really wants to get into doing some Macro stuff and asked me for some advice.

What would your recommendations be?

I said that rather than getting a specific macro lens it might be better to get a set of Kenco tubes, that way he can use other lenses as and when he gets them etc ...

Cheers,

I have kenko tubes and they work very nicely indeed with a 50mm lens. They're quite inexpensive too.

If you use extention tubes on the 50 1.4 (standard magnification 0.15x) you get for a 12mm extention tube a magnification of .39x. and for the 25mm .68x. When with a specific macro lens you got 1.0x...

I'd go for a 100m macro it's one of the sharpest lenses available and you wont scare the bugs because of the extra focal lenght.
