View Full Version : macro with wide angle converter

Question from confused newbie with too many options -
I have the A95 and the S1. My off brand wide-angle converter for the S1 comes with a detacheable macro lens. The Canon wide-angle converter for the A95 does not come with a macro, presumeably because the A95 has a macro mode included.

So, my question is - is it necessary to use the macro setting on the A95 when using the WA converter, or is this an optional situation? Ditto the question for the S1 - should the macro lens be kept in place when shooting with the WA converter, or is it to be used as a separate deal?

Hope I've made this question clear and thanks in advance for response.

The macro setting on the A95 is for use when you're trying to focus on something really close in. It should work about the same whether you have the WA adapter on or not. If you're trying to focus on something close in, you'll use Macro.
On the S1 IS, not knowing precisely which wide adapter you have, it's hard to say. The macro adapter may be independent of the wide adapter (you could use either or both on the camera as you need), or it could actually be one element of the wide adapter, in which case you'd use it on the wide adapter for wide shots and attach it separately to the camera for macro (close-up) work. But I'm just guessing on that, without knowing what model adapter you have.

I think you must mean convertor when you question the adapter model?
It's a Digital Optics Wide-angle converter. Says 0.45x pro high definition with macro.
It came as a "BOGO deal" along with the teleconverter as part of the purchase of my S1 and I suspect it is not of tremendous quality. It's a fun thing to play around with until I know better. <g>

But thanks for trying to clear up my confusion.

If this (http://www.buydig.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=SAKDOWA58) is what you mean, the blurb says that you use one element of the wide-angle adapter/converter as a close-up lens (the second instance I described).

thanks, Jon - that is, indeed, the converter that I was sent. I'll play around with it. Glad that the weather is warming up for all this experimentation.
