Hi guys,

i know this is one nice lense, but the other day i came across the EF 28-300 f/3.5-5.6 L IS USM and when i tryed this out at the shop the first thing i noticed was the Weight!! but the sharpness is spot on.
now i do a lot photography on-location so im always moving all the time and i dont want to be carrying extra wieght....

*conclusion*
The EF 28-30 is more heavy then the EF 70-200mm but the shaprness is outstanding especaily in lowlighting but also so is the 70-200mm god im confuzzed

im trying to wieght up the Pro's and Con's and im getting no where! some one help

Consider the following:

The 70-200 is f/2.8 at all focal lengths.

With the addition of the EF 1.4 TC, it becomes a 98-280 f/4 lens that is still very sharp.

f/5.6 is not very usable in dim light.

A 10x zoom ratio is a major compromise on sharpness and CA.

A slower lens is also more difficult to focus in dim light. One stop can really make a difference.

IMHO, the EF 70-200 f/28 IS L, 24-70 f/2.8 L and the EF 1.4 TC would make a far more versatile and better imaging package.

I agree about the weight but the results are well worth It. I own a 28-300 IS L and I just love the damn thing. I also have a tamron 28 to 300 which is light and is not an IS lens. I get some pretty good results with tha too. This lens weights next to nothing. The 28-300 Canon on a 1D is brutal but Ialso use the weight distribution strap that helps. If you want Iyou want the sharpness you have to sacrifice and also break the baqnk

I love the 28-300 big time. I don't have the IS version of the 70-200 at this time but the fast 2.8 aperature of the 70-200 might be a big deal for some situations. That's what you should weigh.
