It is about a 5 or so hour flight from Santiago. Luckily LAN air has the whole first season off M*A*S*H on their in flight entertainment system.

Great shots, thanks for sharing. I've been told that a trip to Easter Island isn't necessarily worth it, for the time spent getting there and what is readily available to you. Now of course this is from someone who isn't it to photography and the outdoors like the rest of us seem to be, but honestly, would you recommend a trip to Easter Island on it's own, or as part of a bigger trip?

Hard questions to answer, as it is so subjective. I had 4 days on the island and was in no way ready to leave. I wished that I had at least another 4 more days.

But it all depends on the person. If one is at all introspective, then the Island is a magical place where you can spend hours just absorbing it all.

For those that need to be entertained, there really isn't much in the way off entertainment there. A few bars, a nightclub, a smattering of restaurants.

But there are trails all over the island. One could rent a bike and circumnavigate the entire island in a full day. And then do it backwards the next day, seeing a whole different set of sights.

The beach at Anakena kept me happy for hours.

I didn't go, but the scuba diving is supposed to be superb there.

For those contemplating going, I would heartily recommend it. I tacked it onto to a trip to Chile and it made for a nice contrast in a trip that began in Patagonia.

I love these images. What a beautiful place. My 3 year old saw them and the first words out of his mouth were, "Dum dum." If you're confused, watch, "A Night at the Museum."

Anthony, thanks for the tips, and the link. I'm the kind of guy that loves to take it all in. I had my nightclubbing days back in the day, and love to explore by day and revel in it at night with a nice glass of wine. I'll be sure to read up on it some more. Thanks again for sharing.
