Main question is: With a $2500+ purchase of something as complex as a DSLR (even if it's factory refurbished), how comfortable do you feel about not being able to have warranty coverage outside the 90 day period?

I know in the computer and networking field most electronic problems occur within the first 30 days, but most of those items stay either in an office or otherwise controlled environment. How do you feel about an item that is out in the field and "shook around" like a 1D?

I ask because in the past whenever I have purchased one of these factory refurbished SLRs (2 D30s from National Camera Exchange) I have always purchased at least one or two years of extended warranty. This extended warranty made me feel much better about taking those two D30s out in the field to places like Peru and Guatemala.

Now, normally, I wouldn't care as much with a film SLR, but the price point and the inherently higher complexity of a DSLR versus a regular SLR make me think that an extended warranty is more desirable with a DSLR.

Now I see that Samy's does not offer an extended warranty through their extended warranty provider (GE?).

Hence the question posed above... Any and all comments would be appreciated...

Samy's... others have purchased before me and seem to be satisfied with the condition of the item and the fact that it was refurbished by Canon...
