Can anyone help me with Sigma lenses. I am looking at the 55-200mm F4-5.6 DC due to the pricing difference between it and the Canon equiv. I know the Canon is probably superior (smile). Any personal help would be appreciated.

I have a couple Sigma lens and really like mine for the difference in the money the sigma is not that bad of a lens. I have the 70-200 in both sigma and Cannon and you could not tell the difference if you didn't know. that is just my .02 cents worth only difference is the sigma is the f/2.8 and the canon is the f/4.

I use a Sigma 18-125mm DC lens, I love this lens. With that said it's the only Sigma lens I own and for the money I would likely by this lens or the new Sigma 18-200mm coming out soon over the 55-200 DC.
I value a non-rotating front element for use with my filters. Plus I've been very happy with the 18-125mm. I haven't always been happy with the Ritz's camera duo Sigma kits in the past and I think the 55-200mm DC is in that range.

In my experience, you have to take more care over selecting a Sigma lens. I have a 12-24 and a 80-400 wich work perfectly. I have had an 18-125 and a 100-300 which both front focussed badly.
So, make sure you can exchange or return it - just in case.
Other than that, the ones I have produce excellent shots.
Just FYI - I also have 3 Canon lenses - all 3 work fine too.
