^^^ can yours focus to infinity?...
After my DIY conversin I could focus to infinity - but with some tilt in it. I realized that with a star trail image I made at 1.2. After that I used my mini lathe to make a new ring and now it seems to be more parallel to the film plane. And I still can focus to infinity - but have not tested it on the stars. Mirror of 5D is unshaved. And my infinity setting is not perfect, need sometimes to make several images till I got good sharpness on far objects.
Close focus objects are easier for me:

So, you had to remove the breech-lock fitting from the lens and then permanently fix the M42 adapter, if so, was it difficult?

Unfortunately it looks like the rear element may protrude enough to hit the mirror on a 5D2. Have you had a chance to try it on a FF camera yet?

From a translation of the wording below the photograph of the 50mm lens, it would appear that the breech-lock is removed and the M42 adapter is glued to the rear of the lens. I have a couple of FD lenses which I am not too worried about, so might have a go one of the days when I have nothing else to do, :D watch this space.

Oh, yeah Alan...
1. to do this you need to make a metal ring 60.5 x 42 x 1.5
2. need to fix the diaphragm mechanism
3. stick M42-EOS adapter (you can use glue)
Have you had a chance to try it on a FF camera yet?
No, I have not tried yet. But I think you're right.

This was taken with a CZ Tessar f2.8/50 purchased recently from a charity shop for £8.
Not much done, apart from a bit of sharpening and removal of some electric/telephone cables from the sky area.
Exif in tact, but aperture was f8 and not f1.4. I also used a CP filter.

Really sharp from edge to edge !!! but it's still complicated to understand how to mix shift, tilt and aperture. It will take a few months to learn, but I am nearly sure that this lens will fit perfectly in my lineup.

Tilt and shift are easy for me. It's doing an FD to EOS mount conversion that's difficult! You should photo or video document somewhere.

 combining :
- 180° rotating capability,
- F2.8-F22 DOF,
- tilting
- and shifting on a full frame,
is far from evident to get the right DOF and DOF angle, when handhold on a 5DMKII even with EG-S focus screen ... On a tripod, it's more comfortable.

It's really tricky to convert it, as the mechanic is far more complicated with the rotating system. I wouldn't do it by myself. I made it convert by cameraserviceone for 90£. A very good job, he had to change for different size of both spring and bearing ball, otherwise rotating the lens, wouldn't have been fully functional. Fully reversible ... But now, I expect to use it on a 5DMKII and Sony NEX5 in EF mount, no expectation to go to FD mount again. I was going to buy in the future an EF 17F4 TS-E, but now I am wondering, if I won't stay on this lens.
I will post some new pics in the future, with hoping I will progress. Actually I made a comparison with a 24L1.4II and definitely FD 35F2.8TS SSC is much sharper from edge to edge and can be closed to F22 without any risk ...

yup, 3 aperture blade version. no issues on my 5D2 .. but it does hit the mirror on my 5d1 when focusing at infinity. my 5D1 is pretty sucky though when it comes to MF lenses. my other lens adapted zeiss lens tend to hit the mirror on it as well but works perfectly fine on the 5D2

I just found a Beroflex 135mm / 2.8 at the Sunday flea market for 5 euros.
It looks sharper than the tamron, but the Tamron has more saturated colors and nicer bokeh in close ups. Still testing both 135s, they need a very steady hand.

I have a number of FD lenses which I would like to convert for use on my EOS camera. I can get decent results from my 100mm FD macro using an FD-EOS converter, but using the converter with my other lenses gives very poor results.
Would it be possible, if you have the time to write a tutorial how to do the conversion? Or do you know of one already on the Internet?
I recently bought a CZ Jena DDR 50mm f2.8 M42 fit, which I like very much, but I would like to have a go at converting a 28mm FD.
Many thanks.

....
You should join the General MF Lens Discussion (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=653759) here. There are some people around that convert lenses.
Furthermore you could visit my own DIY work, with contains 5 FD-EF lens mount conversions at the moment - but most in German language - but with pictures. FD 24/1.4L is in my DIY drawer for conversion :-)
And on my photo tinkering directory there are some more FD-EF conversions linked.

This was taken with the Zeiss lens in my previous post. Out of the two lenses, the Tokina is by far the best in every respect. I like that lens a lot.
I bought it 1985 with my first SLR, a Canon T50. A couple of years later I sold the T50 and bought a T90, that's when I bought the Canon, but never did use it a lot.
There is a dent in the filter ring on the Tokina, which I must remove one

If you buy any nikkor pre-AI, like the 105 2.5, can you use a M42 adapter and use in your camera or it needs another type of modification?>

You can't use an M42 adapter...and all Nikkors work with the same Nikkor -> EOS adapter for the Canon...

Yeah, the AI status of the lens has no bearing on using it on a Canon camera with a plain old Nikon adapter. It's a good thing, because a lot of the pre-AI lenses have the same optics as their descendants and go for lower prices.

Canon 35-105 FD, using an FD-EOS adapter, exif in tact. I have found that this lens is not too bad at close focus.
I was thinking of getting a second hand 4/3 body just for using my FD lenses, Panasonic G1, or similar. I know I shall still need an adapter, but at least I shall be able to focus to infinity. Does anyone else do this?

A cheap Super Takumar reversed producing almost 3d macro images which are better than some 1K macro lens:confused:. This should be illegal. In any case I have been bitten by the adapted MF bug. Hey Guys,
I just bought a Super TAkumar 135 3.5 on ebay. I paid only 15 bucks, so I was pretty happy with the deal.
I got my lens today, and I was surprised with it:
http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee168/davivascaino/takumar.jpg
The ring that I am pointing with the arrow is loose, so it moves freely. I can still focus without any problems. However, I noticed that I can't change the aperture. The aperture ring does move properly, like it is working. However, all the pictures look the same in terms of blur, which points to the fact that I can't change the aperture in this particular lens.
So, the ring that was supposed to be fixed is loose, and I can't change the aperture. Other than that, the lens is working fine, and the glass is very good. Since I paid only 15 bucks, I do not want to return it, but I was wondering if I can fix this in anyway.
Thanks guys!!

Sounds like your aperture blades are stuck and the distance ring has come loose. Either junk it and try again, or you can send it to Eric Hendrickson (pentaxrepairs@aol.com) who will fix it if it can be fixed. I sent him a 100mm f/4 SMC Takumar with stuck blades and $65 and 11 days later I had a lens that was working perfectly.
If you're REALLY brave, you can attempt the 135/3.5 take-apart and fix it yourself.

Let me ask you something: If I put the switch to AUTO, I am able to open and close the blades of the lens easily, the blades can be fully open or closed. Maybe I need to go outdoors and make sure I have enough space in the background in order to blow it up, I do not know!
Tony-S
25th of July 2011 (Mon), 21:04
Well, then, your blades are fine. My recollection was that manual only allowed that, but perhaps your adapter is depressing the aperture pin that protrudes from the lens mount? At any rate, you need to shoot stopped down - you will not get aperture control from the camera.

Yeah and as you can see from that Sigma, a sub-f/2 20mm is an incredibly difficult lens to design...hence corners that don't become reasonable until like f/11 (and still aren't too good). Though it should be nice on a crop cam!

No mirror issues on the 55 1.8.
Here's a good reference for the 5D (Mk I).
http://www.panoramaplanet.de/comp/
A lot of people focus on the Tak 50 1.4 because of the slightly larger aperture, but from what I've seen (just my opinion) the 55 1.8 is actually the sharper lens. It's certainly a cheaper lens.. and as you can see, plays nice with the 5D.
