My homemade ring-flash was using up too much power and I was going through batteries like no other with the 580exII. So I experimented a little and this is what I came up with...

*note*(not pictured) I also put a rolled up paper down the center to mimic the ringflash

And surprisingly at 1/2 power 5 feet further away I was able to get nice results.

I know it's not the same as the ring-flash but it's neat. I like that it uses less power and is able to shoot at a further distance too. Has a similar effect to the ring-flash but not quite...I'm just posting this because I thought it was neat :lol:

That looks good, what was it made from? I would be interested to see it assembled as well.

Basically like a ring-flash but a little more...compressed? I still don't know why this is more light effective then my homemade ring-flash but it works and I like it. :)

It can be flashed, gelled, or used as a reflector when taken apart.

Rechargeable batteries are a pretty affordable alternative solution to using too many batteries in your flash...

I just bought 12 Calumet Photographic 2700 mAh rechargeable batteries for $20.

I realize I could use rechargeable batteries but this lets me get a little bit more distance in with less power. It also carries around like a reflector :lol:
