Well, it looks like there is a league match this Friday and then counties in March. It has been a blast shooting the team this year. I have learned so much here and the feedback has been appreciated. Hopefully it is showing in my work.
Amazing the difference NR software makes in these low light photos. Really cleans'em up.
Please let me know what you think. I want to improve and the only way I can do that is to know what needs work.
Thanks again.

Lat 2 shots for C&C. I like the last photo, except for the darn ref getting his arm in the way. Happens from time to time I guess.

40 views and no replies yet? Are they that bad?

I've never seen wrestling at that age. I think they're pretty cool. Mostly sharp (the last is a little soft).
The only two comments I have are to try to get some that have more of the matt and the wrestlers instead of all closeups... Great close shots of their faces, tho'!
The other is white balance. If you can adjust that to avoid the usual gym lights with the blue/green coloration... I think you're golden.
The boy in green in the first shot looks like he's laughing...that's kinda' funny.
nice job!

That gym is tough because the mats are green and yellow. And it really throws off the WB for me anyways. Now that I am getting closer with my focus, I need to start taking a custom WB and using it.
I agree the last is soft, but I like his expression for some reason.
All that I have been told and read says to shoot tight and crop tighter. I can remove some of the cropping within LR and go a little larger.
Thanks for the feedback.

I like the crops, for the most part. You've been able to capture expressions really well, and I think you should continue to do so...'cause it works really well.
However, a few wider shots to set the scene and establish a context would be cool. Also, In some of the shots, (with me not being a wrestler), I don't know exactly what they're doing...It's a tangle of arms and legs and I think sometimes seeing more of their arms and legs will be helpful for the viewer...at least for me, anywho.
oh... I just had this thought...some of these might look pretty sweet with a B&W conversion.

I really like the one where he's pinning the other kid. Great shot, yet also great effort by the other kid to bridge out of it. If only the top kid's head were turned toward the camera a little more, then perfect shot.
I agree with some others, zoom out a bit and get more of the bodies. Otherwise, awesome shots, you keep getting better.
And as to age of the kids, not too little at all. My son just turned 7 and this is his 3rd year. Never too young to start them.

I will convert a few of these and repost in B&W. I am not that great in PP but will give a go. I will also expand the crops and try to show more in the image.
Can I add them to this post, or should I start a new one?

Mike has hit it about perfect.
Is the kid posing for you in the first photo? Looks like he was smiling for the camera! ha ha

One of the posts mentioned converting these to B&W. I converted 3 of them using an action that I have. I would like to know if you think these work as B&W and any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

personally I love seeing kids these age wrestle.. I did in High school, but that was a few years ago... honestly to me, all of the images look a tad soft.. what lens are you using to shoot these with?

I'm using a Sigma 70-200 2.8 with a canon 20d and a 580 EX flash.

Defiantly need to custom white balance. A friend of mine asked me to shoot his son wrestling and I didn't custom my WB and paid dearly for it in post production. I now use an expodisc and it works perfectly.
