Smoking Man . . .

Bartholomew . . . or Smoking Man agreed to allow me to take this portrait of him. He had stepped aside from the hustle and bustle of the Mountain Man spring camp, this Saturday past. A kind gentleman in 1830's garb he is defiantly in the vein of self Individual. Cupping the cigarette in his right hand he gazed off into the Indian camp across the small lake . . . and I wonder his quiet solemn thoughts.

You have some very good characters there to photograph. I like his clothing and that he seems to be lost in thought and far away from everyone else. Nice, as usual.
