Is it possible to sort the classifieds section into different countries.

So for example when you click on Sell section, it will open up a page where you select which country you wish to purchase from. Then goes to the actual page of listed items..

Theres been a fair few instances where i wanted an item and then to only realize its from another country.

Is this possible?

Im sure it will help a lot of people wanting to purchase items.

What you all think?

Item # 1 in "Placing an ad in Marketplace"PLACING AN AD IN MARKETPLACE

IMPORTANT NOTE: ONLY THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN WITH POTN 30 DAYS AND POSTED 30 MESSAGES MAY LEAVE ADS.

Include your country of residence in the title, even if you are willing to sell outside that area. Within the post, please provide an indication of where you live.
Specify the currency you are selling in.
Post pictures, where applicable, in the original post.
Please list any extras or accessories you will include in the transaction.
State the acceptable method(s) of payment.
Please state if shipping/insurance is included in the price. Also state the method of shipping you are proposing.
Mark SOLD by locking the thread: see http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...d.php?t=179825 (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=179825)
All Thread titles should include one or more of the following abbreviations in the TITLE:

FS = For Sale
FA = for Auction (it is permissible to advertise your ebay /auctions, but they MUST contain "FA" in the title)
FT = For trade
WTB = Want to buy (when your looking to buy something.)

If you sell only to certain continent, country or trade area, please state that in title, e.g.:
For Sale (UK) Canon EF-S 17-85mm
For Sale (US) Canon EF-S 17-85mm
For Sale Canon EF-S 17-85mm (EU)
It is always helpful to your fellow members to have your actual location listed either in the thread, or in your member profile.DOUBLE-CHECK THAT ALL FACTS AND PRICES ARE CORRECT, AND THAT YOU HAVE PROVIDED PHOTOS AND ALL RELEVANT INFO. MAKE ALSO SURE THAT YOUR EMAIL IS WORKING AND THAT IT IS ENABLED IN FORUM'S USER CONTROL PANEL.

To automatically follow replies, use our "subscription" feature: either set it on in your User CP (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/usercp.php) before posting or use thread tools -> subscribe thread after posting.

UPDATE: 13 October 2008
In attempt to avoid blatant scam attempts and have some post history on those who place ads, and to make the Sell and Buy forums a service for our loyal member and not just a passer-by:

From now on you will need to be member of POTN in order to start new threads in buy or sell forums. This means you need 30 days and 30 posts before you can place your ad. Junior Members (0-29 posts) can of course reply to posts as usual.

Please let moderators know if you have any permission problems after the change.

So the problem's at least in large part people not providing that info. If it isn't provided, you can't sort or search on it. If they did, you'd be able to search for [UK] for instance.

I just wished we could edit our titles so when we drop the price it would show up.

Posting your own reply dont bring it back up so whats the use.

I'd also like a way to make sure when I search for gear i can filter out sold items

A way to 'age out' old ads for buy and sell would be useful too. It just seems like a lot of the ads are either abandoned or have been 'closed' without notice.

If you use the Advanced Search you can set a time limit of 1 week, 2 weeks, a month, 3 months . . . on results returned on your searches.

This is why posting a price in the title is really not such a good idea. Statements like "Priced to Sell" in the title may be helpful.

While "Thread Start" is the default sort order you may choose to sort the Buy & Sell forums by "Last Post" which is what most ardent MarketPlace user choose because it keep up with recent activity. This is a per user, per visit setting and must be selected by each user on each visit.

Jon - I understand that the rules state that you should post the country you are from etc.. But most dont.. I know for a fact that i always do.

It should be mandatory and if they dont you should just delete the threads without notice.. That could be a good option??

I'd rather see Marketplace closed altogether - it'd be less work. Frankly, Marketplace causes us Mods more hassle than anything else aside from spammers. If we had to start deleting every thread that didn't do exactly what the rules say, we'd never get anything else done.

I understand. Was just suggesting ideas (and not thinking it thru)

Perhaps make like a drop down menu which automatically writes the country code you are in in the for sale title. Something like that.
Seen it in other forums, but they are using IPboard based board.

Anyways hmmm

That's a good tip - I'll try it...Thanks!
