Any one have shots taken with a similar setup? Im thinking about buying a single alienbee with a octobox+vagabond to use along side my 540ez flashes. Tried using my 540ez with some modifiers and they weren't working too well. Would the 800 or 1600 alienbee be the best? I have the stands, wireless transmitter, ect. So all i need is the octobox, strobe, and power supply. if anyone has shots taken with a alienbee/off camera flash combo that would also be great! :D

I don't have an AB setup, but all these were taken with a single strobe and an Octa:

Which octo you want to buy? Unless it is some foldable one, I would guess it being hard to carry on location. I have the photoflex 5' and if I am not mistaken, I get f8 at ISO100 at a distance of 8 feet, using AB800 at 1/2 power. I can redo the test if you want.

These were taken with a single light; B400 in a large softbox. Octabox would be similar except for the shape of the catch lights.

This one was taken with a B800 (with umbrella) and an old Braun Flash. This was before I bought more Bees.

The top one was:
b800 into large octabox camera left - at a 45 degree angle.
bottom was:
B1600 into large octabox directly above camera, pointed at group.

Alright, enough of these studio shots, let's see some On Location photos:
The first one I posted earlier was shot on location:

... as was this one (small square softbox used, not an Octa):

I haven't got any others I can share online ATM, but it should be obvious that you can do a lot with just the one light on location.
