I have recently been asked to do the directory for my church. The address and phone numbers are going to be in the back so all i have to do is shoot the members and do the layout with their names under the pictures. Sounds ezy enough...
My problem is for the life of me I cannot find any kind of template nor do i know how to do the layout...
I have Adobe cs3 ps/id etc.
Can anyone help me ?
We are a small church and don't want to go through those other companies.
Plus we are only talking about 5 pages of pictures at the most.
Thank you
Pete

How about using the Contact Sheet functionality?
I don't have photoshop in front of me right now, but you should be able to use that to lay out your head-shots and add captions to each one...

Will you be doing the printing or will you be having a professional printing company do the printing?
If you are doing the printing at home, you could probably create a template in publisher or word that would suffice. If you are having a printing company print it, you may see if you can find access to Quark or InDesign as these appear to be the program of choice for professional layout.

Do you have MS Office or similar?
It might be better to come at it from the "opposite" direction where you format your text to suit your printing needs then add the photos as objects.

I think the "contact sheet" functionality would be the easiest way for you to lay these out. Make the file name the individual/family name, and tell PS to put the filename under the picture. You can arrange as many to a page as you'd like and it does it all automatically.

Here's something you might want to look into.

I had looked at this as a solution for a church who wanted a directory and wanted me to photograph the members. The church split so the project never happened.

Try this website: www.comresources.com (http://www.comresources.com). Look for Instant Church Directory. I did a directory with this last year for our church. It turned out pretty good, for a basic program. I actually used the layout as a template and did the picture part of the book in PhotoShop. The pictures came out a little better that way.
