Hello All.
This seems to be the best place to post this topic. I'm a serious amateur and want to upgrade to a flat panel wide screen monitor. NEC's are out of my price range. I don't seem to find any mention of them on the forums. The Planar goes for around 800 - 900 bucks. They are very popular among gamers. Any opinions would be much appreciated. Thanks for your help.

Wow 6 hours and no replies. I guess Planar is not a well known brand among photogs. they do have a highly rated LG screen. Planar is also I believe the #1 monitors for heavy duty gamers.

Hello again. I wonder why the appearance to my post was changed??? Is this an improper post for this forum? If it was I would have thought someone would have mentioned it or suggested I move it to a different forum area.
Thanks for looking.

No changes have been made to your post.

The lack of replies could be for any number of different reasons.

Planar is not a brand I have ever heard of, and you already seem to know a bit about them.

And, this is a forum, sometimes it can take a day or two before someone who is interested this topic comes along.

Moppie,
Thanks for letting me know this. It may behoove some of the forum members to check out Planar monitors as for some of us, this less expensive option may work for them. Thanks again for responding to this.

Never heard of Planar. I wouldn't say they are popular among gamers at least not in the UK as I am a gamer and non of my gamer friends have heard of them either. However it does seem to have an IPS panel so if you got it from somewhere with a good returns policy, you wouldn't lose anything but time if it turned out to be rubbish.

They are very popular among gamers.

I have heard of the brand, but I'm not familiar with the products. Gamers are very concerned with "ghosting" which is typically not an issue with photo editing.

Here are the reviews from Newegg.com (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=N82E16824016084). It seems to have great specs but can have quality control issues.

I remember briefly looking at Planar when shopping for a 24". Not exactly sure, but I seem to remember reading some reports of poor quality control and monitors failing after a while and that was why I went with something else. But there were also lots of satisfied customers so by many accounts their products are good.

I went with an HP 24" IPS panel. Not sure about the number. 2475? About $600. But that is wide gamut though, which has it's drawbacks. Can find the product number if you're interested..

Chas & obidamnkenobi.
Thanks for your feedback. It's appreciated. Apparently Planar does not normally cater to the consumer market but more to commercial enterprises, although that seems to be changing. anyone can buy one if they want. CDW sells them for example. I happen to be a gamer (sort of) and am more into photography, thus my quandary.
Here is a thread (albeit by gamers) that tells a little more about Planar monitors if anyone is interested. http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1180069
Thanks again for your responses.

At "800 or 900 dollars" you are within spitting distance of an amazing 26" NEC monitor. Why bother?

Chas P and the Hoff. thanks for getting back to me. It's appreciated. I have read the reviews you from the link and others as well. I have a feeling I will wait and go with the NEC. I've heard pros and cons on the NEC as well, but at least it was designed for working with Photoshop and other photog software. Thanks again.
