I've created a watermark as outlined in this tutorial
http://graphicssoft.about.com/c/ht/00/07/How_Add_Text_Watermark0963973007.htm?once=true&
but do not know how to save it so I can simply drop it onto another image.
Can somebody help me? I use PS 7.

Did you create it as a layer in an image file? If so, simply delete the background layer (your photo and any layers that are not part of the watermark) then "save as." I would probably save it as a tiff or psd file so as to avoid any compression.

When you want to apply it, open the watermark file, select all, copy and paste as a layer in the new image file. You could easily create an action that does this for you, too.

Excellent Mitch. Thank you. Now how do I create an action?

To create an action in PS7, go to the Window dropdown, and select Actions. Then hit the "new" button (looks just like the one that makes a new layer). Give your action a name like Watermark, then hit record. Then all you have to do is create your watermark. When you're done, just hit the square stop button. now whenever you want to add the watermark, just check the far left box next to the name of your action, and hit play. That's it!
